Bale, the world’s most expensive player, following his £86million transfer move from Tottenham in the summer window, made a scoring debut at Villarreal for Real Madrid over the weekend, but manager Carlo Ancelotti has opted to start the Welshman on the bench for this game.

As promised, Iker Casillas starts in goal with Diego Lopez dropping to the bench.

Asier Illarramendi is also back on the bench, but Luka Modric, Isco and Angel di Maria start, so too does the attacking powerhouses, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

For Galatasaray, former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba, as well as Burak Yilmaz and Wesley Sneijder all start as the Turkish side look for an upset against the La Liga giants.
