Impressive Iran shock Bale, Wales 2-0 at World Cup 2022

Impressive Iran beat Wales 2-0 at World Cup 2022

AL RAYYAN, Qatar (November 25) —— Two late goals in stoppage time carried Iran to a dramatic and famous upset 2-0 win over Wales who were reduced to 10 men in this Fifa World Cup 2022 Group B game here at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Monday’s Day 6.

Wayne Hennessey was sent off in the 86th minute of the game for a clumsy challenge after an Iran breakaway and they were made to pay for his mistake as Rouzbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian scored twice in a three-minute span to seal the well-deserved win for their team as they now move from bottom to second place in the group behind England.

The win means Iran stayed in contention for qualification to the knockout round after getting hammered 6-2 by England in the group opener, while today’s defeat sees Wale hanging on for life now with England being the next fixture and they must win that matchup or prepare to book an early flight home.

The other game in Group B sees the United States taking on England later today.

After the big victory today, Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said: “Two points. We played today with amazing character, which is the profile of our team. We play with a sense of unity, cohesion. After the first game we need to get back on route.

“The second point was to get rid of this bad feeling of bleeding. Football is a game of different moments. It’s not because you win or lose.

“Sometimes you lose your dignity, your honour, but of course in our first game we were bleeding in our pride. This was an opportunity to rebound. We put a good scarf [bandage] to stop the bleeding.

“We played brilliantly and deserved to win.”
