MUMBAI (Sporting Alert) — Kieron Pollard struck 41 from just 17 balls to help the Mumbai Indians post 187 for six off their 20-overs in their IPL qualifier 1 game against the Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai, Tuesday night.
Mumbai Indians had won the toss and elected to bat first.
The hard hitting West Indian batsman hammered away 5 sixes and 1 four in his brisk knock before falling to fellow Caribbean compatriot Dwayne Bravo, going for another big hit, with two balls left in the innings.
Another West Indies batsman, Lendl Simmons, also played an important role in sending the Mumbai Indians on their way after hitting a team 65 runs off 51 balls, polished with 5 sixes and 3 fours.
Simmons put on 90 runs with opening partner Parthiv Patel, who stroke 35 runs from 25 balls. Patel, in his inning, hit 5 fours and 1 six.
Bravo finished with three wickets for 40 runs, with 17 of those runs coming in the final over when Pollard hammered him all over the park.
Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohit Sharma each picked up a wicket for the Mumbai Indians, who will be hoping to win this one and avoid having to play another game to try and qualify for the final.
