(Sporting Alert) — Captain Vincent Kompany has made a return from injury to start for Manchester City in tonight’s Champions League opening Group D clash with Viktoria Plzen at Struncovy Sady.
The Belgian center back had been out of action since picking up a groin strain in Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Newcastle United in their English Premier League opener last month.
But after returning to training fully this week, new manager Manuel Pellegrini has named his leading defending in the backline.
Also starting in the backline is Matija Nastasic
Also starting tonight for the EPL side are Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko, who will lead the attacking line, while Alvaro Negredo, who started in the Premier League 0-0 draw with Stoke City at the weekend, starts on the bench.
Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri also start, with James Milner, Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia all on the bench.
