LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — a brace from Karim Benzema and one from Cristiano Ronaldo fired Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Liverpool in their Champions League Group B clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

All three goals came in the first half.

Portugal forward Ronaldo the broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute with a superb one-two passing link up play with James Rodriguez.

Ronaldo’s movement split the backline of Liverpool and he went on to strike a first-time volley past Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

The former Manchester United player was scoring his first ever goal at Anfield.

Meanwhile, it took seven minutes for Real Madrid to add another goal, as Benzema scored with a superb header to make it 2-0 in the 30th minute.

A delightful cross from Toni Kroos was met by a stunning header from Benzema, who cleverly guided the ball over the head of Mignolet and into the back of the net.

Benzema then added his second and a third for the holders when he poked home from close range in the 41st minute.

Liverpool dominated the opening play of the game, but Real Madrid midfielders Kroos and Luka Modric, after settling down, completely turned things around in the middle of the park for the Spanish giants.

Reds’ Philippe Coutinho did hit the post in the final second of the first half and Raheem Sterling has looked lively in the attack, but other than that, it’s been all Real Madrid.
