Ronaldo was hoping to make his first pre-season appearance with the Champions League winners, but the Portugal international, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said, is not fit enough to face his former club.

At the same time though, Gareth Bale will start the match, so too does Isco, who has been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants, as well as Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Xabi Alonso.

Meanwhile, despite being ruled out at the start of the day, Phil Jones is listed in the starting team for Manchester United and will play alongside Michael Keane and Jonny Evans in the three man back line for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Manchester United are reporting that defender Chris Smalling is injured and will miss out.

Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Danny Welbeck and Ander Herrera all start for the English Premier League side.  Fletcher will again captain the team.

Real Madrid team: Casillas; Ramos, Pepe, Nacho; Arbeloa, Illarmendi, Alonso, Carvajal; Modric, Bale; Isco.

Manchester United team: De Gea; M Keane, Jones, Evans; Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher, Young; Mata; Rooney, Welbeck.
