CAMBRIDGE (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United have named a very strong team to face Cambridge United in tonight’s FA Cup – 4th round clash at Abbey Stadium, but there is no Wayne Rooney and Victor Valdes is only on the bench.
Michael Carrick will skipper Man United tonight with Rooney out, while David de Gea remains the , despite reports suggesting that manager Louis van Gaal was poised to hand Valdes his debut for the club.
The Red Devils’ starting lineup also includes Adnan Januzaj, who was an unused substitute in recent weeks, Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson, who both came off the bench to score in the English Premier League win against QPR on Saturday.
Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are also in the starting team, while Radamel Falcao leads the attack with Robin van Persie on the bench.
Juan Mata, who was subbed off at halftime in the win over QPR in the last fixtures, was also left of the team entirely.
Darren Fletcher, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer win, is among the Man United substitutes tonight and could play some part as the game progresses.
Former Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick, who says he was looking forward to playing in tonight’s game, will have to wait, as he was only named as a substitute against his ex-club.
Cambridge United come into this game unchanged starting team that hammered Newport 4-0 last weekend.
Tom Champion, Tom Elliott, Ryan Donaldson, Cameron McGeehan and Sullay Kaikai all start for the home side, which will be looking to upset the overwhelming favourites, who are over 70-places above them in league standings.
