MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United news heading into Monday night’s English Premier League clash with Southampton on the road.

After missing the midweek win over Stoke City, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that the club skipper Wayne Rooney is fit again and will play against Southampton.
Rooney sat out last Tuesday’s 2-1 home victory because of a knee injury, but van Gaal confirmed that the England forward is ready to play at St Mary’s Stadium.
The Red Devils, though, will still be without Argentinian midfield playmaker Angel Di Maria, who remains on the sideline with the hamstring injury he suffered during the first half of the league win over Hull City.
Van Gaal said the club’s summer recruit is progressing well, but isn’t ready to feature.
“It’s not a bad injury, but I am not a doctor,” the manager said on the club’s official site at www.manutd.com.
“I have to say it like a manager, not like a doctor. But I think he shall recover very quickly.”
In other Manchester United news, the club reports that defender Jonny Evans has returned to full training and is fit to play again.
However, despite returning to train with the first team, fellow center-back Phil Jones will not feature against Southampton.
“Evans is coming back,” the manager said. “He is fit to play.
“Jones is coming back but not fit to play. He needs training sessions and maybe also matches in the second team. But he is coming back.
“He is fit to train. That is also very good. We are seeing already light in the tunnel.”
Manchester United are going for their fifth successive win in the English Premier League as they seek to move into the top three in the table standings.
At the moment, the Red Devils are sitting one point behind the Saints, who are in fourth, with West Ham United (27pts) currently at third after winning on Sunday.
