MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand are both in starting lineup for Manchester United in tonight’s crucial Champions League second leg tie with Olympiakos at Old Trafford.
Manchester United trail Olympiakos 2-0, this after losing the first leg away.
Ferdinand will play alongside Phil Jones in the heart of the backline, while Giggs has come in to play in midfield.
Starting as well is Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck, with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie leading the attack.
Amongst those on the bench for United tonight are Javier Hernández, Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Adnan Januzaj.
Marouane Fellaini is on the bench, while Juan Mata is Cup-tied and is not eligible.
Many Manchester United supporters have already given up on the team’s chances of making it past the last-16, with many also preparing for a season away from playing in Europe next year.
It is widely understood that a large portion of the Man United fans also wants to team to be knocked out tonight, as they believe David Moyes has not been as influential as a manager as they had hoped when he took over last summer.
Olympiacos, meanwhile, make only one change from the side that played in the first leg with David Fuster replacing Michael Olaitan.
On loan Arsenal forward Joel Campbell, who was very impressive in the first game, is also in the starting team.
