MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Sporting Alert – Jose Mourinho is expected to make changes to Manchester United side for today’s Champions League final Group A encounter against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford.
The English Premier League giants are currently in pole position and are the favorites to win the group and advance to the knockout round.
Entering this game, Manchester United have 12 points, three more than CSKA Moscow and Basel and will definitely win the group with a draw.
Mourinho side can also still qualify from the group stage if they lose by less than seven goals.
However, for CSKA to qualify from the group stage, it would have to win and hope that Basel loses against the already eliminated Benfica.
So with this in mind, and given the strength of his Manchester United squad, along with the big derby to come at the weekend, Mourinho is prepared to freshen things up in his starting XI
The Portugal has already confirmed that goalkeeper David de Gea would be rested after his outstanding performance in the Premier League win at Arsenal, while the game also comes too soon for striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are out through injury as well.
Paul Pogba will start, though, as confirmed by Mourinho, given that he will be suspended for their next three league matches, with Sergio Romero coming in for De Gea.
Fellow midfield partner, Nemanja Matic could be rested with Ander Herrera set to come in.
Pushing for starts as well are Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmain.
CSKA Moscow warmed up for this crucial Champions League encounter with a 6-0 thrashing of Tosno, while Manchester United prepared for this clash with a 3-1 victory at Arsenal in league action.
Manchester United who are undefeated in their last 5 matches against CSKA Moscow in all competitions, enter this game as a favorite as Mourinho’s side have not lost at Old Trafford since September 2016.
The Russian side was also been dealt a massive blow as it will be without Pontus Wernbloom and Bibras Natkho due to suspension.
Georgi Milanov, Georgy Schennikov and Aleksei Berezutski are all injured and miss out as well.
