Jose Mourinho’s side snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Northampton Town in the EFL Cup in midweek and the manager is hoping that result will lift the confidence in his dressing room.

The Red Devils are set to recall a number of starters, including goalkeeper David de Gea, converted right-back Antonio Valencia, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and midfielder Paul Pogba, but Mourinho could be without a few of his players as well.

Versatile centre-back Phil Jones is out of contention with a knee injury, while forward Anthony Martial, who was forced off the pitch in Sunday’s defeat at Watford, will miss the clash with the champions with ankle/calf problems.

However, starting left-back Luke Shaw, who picked up a slight groin tear in the last Premier League out and playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was carrying a thigh problem, are apparently back in contention for the squad, but must pass fitness tests to be considered.

Michael Carrick was outstanding in midweek at Northampton and could win a place in the starting team, while it is still unclear as to whether Wayne Rooney will keep his place.

Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Robert Huth, Christian Fuchs and Daniel Amartey are all set to return for champions Leicester City after manager Claudio Ranieri made seven changes in the 4-2 extra time defeat to Chelsea in EFL Cup.

First-choice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is expected to remain out of the discussion, despite recovering from concussion.

The Dane international sustained a minor muscle strain in training and is doubtful, so Ron-Robert Zieler could start.

In other news, Matty James and Nampalys Mendy (both ankle) are still missing, while Marcin Wasilewski is suspended after he was ejected in the second half in the Foxes EFL Cup defeat to Chelsea.
