Manager Jose Mourinho made two changes to his Manchester United side from the last outing with Daley Blind and Juan Mata coming into the starting lineup.
However, there is no Wayne Rooney, who is not in the squad altogether as reports claimed the England striker travelled to Old Trafford alone by car.
According to Mourinho, the United captain “felt something in training” on Sunday and is unavailable to play.
Blind comes in to replace Matteo Darmian at left-back while Mata will link up with Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the United front-three.
The middle three of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba stayed the same, which is a good sign for Mourinho, so too is the centre-back pair of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo with Antonio Valencia playing at right-back.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United boss David Moyes makes his first return to Old Trafford since being sacked in 2014 and he too makes two adjustments to his Sunderland starting team for this trip.
Adnan Januzaj is not in the squad as he’s ineligible to face his parent side, while former United defender Donald Love drops to the bench.
Moyes has recalled Seb Larsson and Billy Jones to take the place of the outgoing players.
There is also no place in the starting XI for former Red Devils defender John O’Shea.
