COLLEGE PARK, Md., Sporting Alert – Darryl Morsell scored 14 points to lead a balanced offense, as No. 7 Maryland eased to an 80-50 victory over Oakland on Saturday.
Morsell shot 6 of 8 from the field and made a pair of 3-pointers to the lead the attack for the Terrapins (3-0), while grabbing seven rebounds and picked up two steals in the win.
Anthony Cowan Jr. added 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds, Aaron Wiggins scored 10 and Jalen Smith contributed eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks for the Terps, who are off a 3-0 start for the sixth successive season.
Xavier Hill-Mais paced Oakland (3-2) with 18 points and four rebounds, while going 6 of 12 from the floor and made three efforts from beyond the 3-point line.
Brad Brechting had six points, six rebounds and two steals in the defeat for the Golden Grizzlies, who shot 36.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 from long range.
As a team, Maryland, which led 35-22 at halftime, outrebounded Oakland 40-30 and used a strong defensive effort to set up the win.
With the victory, the Terrapins improved to 48-6 in nonconference home games in the last six seasons.
In the meantime, Oakland, fell to 10-69 against Power 5 conference opponents.
The Terps are back in action on Tuesday night at home against Fairfield on Tuesday night.
Oakland will entertain Hartford on Monday night.
Meanwhile, there were also wins for No. 9 Virginia, which beat Columbia 60-42 and No. 10 Villanova, which secured a 70-54 win over Ohio.
