NBA Preseason Weekend Round-up: Oct. 2

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert — Round-up and scores from the NBA preseason games that took place over the weekend.

A total of four games were contested on Saturday and Sunday, with three of the four winners scoring over 100 points.

On Saturday at ORACLE Arena in Oakland, Calif., Paul Millsap had 22 points and 11 rebounds and the Denver Nuggets edged the Golden State Warriors 108-102 in a preseason game for both teams.

Emmanuel Mudiay finished with 19 points and six assists off the bench, Mason Plumlee added 12 points and 10 boards and Nikola Jokic scored 12 points for Denver in the win.

Stephen Curry was held to 11 points on 4 of 12 shooting for the Warriors, while Kevin Durant scored 10 points.

The only other Golden State player in double figures was Klay Thompson (10).

Also on Saturday at Anaheim, Calif., Shabazz Muhammad scored 22 points off the bench and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-99.

Taj Gibson finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, Karl-Anthony Towns had 15 points, Gorgui Dieng ended with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Jeff Teague finished with 11 points and nine assists for the Timberwolves in the win.

Talked about rookie Lonzo Ball scored five points with seven rebounds and eight assists in 36 minutes in his preseason debut for the LA Lakers.

The first round draft pick shot just 2 of 9 from the floor and 1 of 5 from three-point range in the loss.

Kyle Kuzma led the Lakers with 19 points off the bench, while Julius Randle had 15 points, Jordan Clarkson ended with 14 and Brandon Ingram scored 10 points in the defeat.

In Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sunday night, Kyle Lowry finished with 17 points, while Norman Powell scored 16 off the bench to help the Toronto Raptors topped the Los Angeles Clippers 121-113.

CJ Miles and Serge Ibaka each scored 12 points for the Raptors, while Delon Wright and Demar DeRozan ended with 11 for Toronto.

For the LA Clippers, Blake Griffin had 18 points and Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams each scored 17 in the defeat.

Patrick Beverley finished with 14 points for the Clippers, whose new backup point guard Milos Teodosic had eight assists, two steals, and one point in 25 minutes off the bench.

In the other NBA preseason game played on Sunday, the Miami Heat defeated the Atlanta Hawks 96-90.

Tyler Johnson posted 14 points, Josh Richardson tallied 12, Rodney McGruder (10pts) and Hassan Whiteside grabbed 11 rebounds for the Heat.

Dennis Schroder and Dewayne Dedmon each scored 12 points in the defeat for the new-look Hawks.
