NBA Results today; Nets win 12 straight

The NBA had a busy night of action with a full schedule of games, resulting in some exciting wins and tough losses. The following are the NBA results, scores and top performers on Monday night, Jan. 2.

Record-breaking performance by Donovan Mitchell

The highlight of the night’s NBA action was undoubtedly Donovan Mitchell’s record-breaking performance for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mitchell scored an incredible 71 points in the team’s 145-134 overtime victory against the Chicago Bulls, setting a Cleveland record for the most points scored by a player in 17 years.

This impressive feat is the eighth-highest total in NBA history and marks the most points scored by an NBA player since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

Brooklyn Nets continue winning streak

The Brooklyn Nets extended their winning streak to 12 games with a dominant 139-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Kyrie Irving led the way for the Nets with 27 points. Kevin Durant added 15 points, 11 assists and three steals in the win. T.J. Warren scored 18 points off the bench and Seth Curry finished with 16 for the Nets (25-12).

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks extended their own winning streak to seven games with a 111-106 win over the Houston Rockets. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with a 39-point performance.

The Golden State Warriors also had a successful night, picking up their fifth consecutive win with a 143-141 double overtime victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Defeats for Hawks and Rockets – 4th in a row

Unfortunately, the Hawks and Rockets were not as fortunate, as both teams dropped their fourth straight games. The Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves were also able to pick up victories over the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets, respectively.

Other notable performances from the Monday include Julius Randle’s 28 points in the New York Knicks’ win over the Phoenix Suns, Joel Embiid’s 42 points in the Philadelphia 76ers‘ win over the New Orleans Pelicans, and Gary Trent Jr.’s 32 points in the Raptors’ loss to the Pacers.
