Two-time defending champions Miami Heat (38-14), the Indiana Pacers (41-12) and the San Antonio Spurs (39-15), all picked up wins on the night.
LeBron James returned from the All-Star break in good form after scoring a season-high 42 points, nine rebounds and six assists in Miami’s 117-106 win over the Dallas Mavericks (32-23).
“I’m still tired,” James revealed. “But when I’m on the court, I’ve got to try to make things happen.”
His performance in Tuesday night sees James scoring at least 35 points in three successive games for the first time for the Heat, as his team improved to 6-1 in February and warmed up nicely for Thursday night battle with Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team that leads the NBA standings this season.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, while Vince Carter added 15 points and rebounds from off the bench.
Also on the night the Pacers picked up a 108-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks (25-27), with Paul George leading the way with 26 points, while the Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers (37-19) at STAPLES Center, 113-103.
