Fernandinho returned a muscle strain problem this week and has been slotted directly into the middle of the pitch by manager Manuel Pellegrini.
This means that Yaya Toure will be able to return to a more advanced role in the midfield as he supports David Silva and Alvaro Negredo, who leads the attack tonight.
The Premier League side, however, is without star forward Sergio Aguero, who will miss the game because of a muscle injury he picked up last month. Aguero has scored 15 English Premier League goals so far this season.
Barcelona, in the meantime, recalled midfielder Xavi, while Neymar has been named to the bench.
Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro lead the attack.
