LSU’s offense blasted 15 runs in an NCAA college baseball Regionals opening round win over Texas Southern on Friday evening.

The Baton Rouge Regional No. 1-seeded Tigers started with a shaky defense and trailed the fourth-seeded Texas Southern (20-33) 3-0 early and 7-5 at the top of the fifth inning.

However, the national seed found their scoring touch afterwards to score 10-unanswered runs – four in the fifth, four in the seventh and two in the eighth – to setup what turned out to be a comfortable victory.

LSU (44-17), which overcame five fielding errors that led to six unearned runs in the opening five innings, finished with 12 hits on the afternoon at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

They now advanced to the winners’ bracket of the four-team, double-elimination NCAA Regional and will face No. 2-seed Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

LSU is now 25-0 in regional openers.

Meanwhile, Texas Southern falls to the losers’ side of the bracket and faces an early elimination.

At the Tallahassee Regional, host and No. 1 seed Florida State was stunned by the fourth-seeded Tennessee Tech, 3-1.

Florida State (39-20) cruised through a very difficult ACC tournament and were expected to start Regional play on a winning note.

However, the Golden Eagles (40-19), on the back of a pair of 9th-inning runs, stunned the Seminoles to move to the winners’ side of the bracket.

In another upset result in the opening round, Davidson took down top-seed North Carolina 8-4 in the Chapel Hill Regional for the Wildcats’ first-ever NCAA tournament win.

Davidson raced off to a strong start and let the national seeded North Carolina 8-0 after six innings.

The Tar Heels, who are the No. 1 national seed, scored three runs in the seventh inning and one in the sixth, but couldn’t make up the deficit and fell to the losers’ side of the bracket.
