MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert — Scores and results from the college football games involving Top 25 teams on Saturday, Sept. 9.

No. 1 ALABAMA 41, FRESNO STATE 10

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Jalen Hurts threw for 128 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 154 yards and two scores and No. 1 Alabama picked up a 41-10 victory over Fresno State on Saturday.

Hurts, who completed 14 of 18 passes and ran with the ball 10 times, connected with Hale Hentges for a scoring pass in the first quarter for the Crimson Tide (2-0) who beat then-No. 3 No. Florida State to open the season in Atlanta last week.

Chason Virgil passed for 180 yards and a 26-yard touchdown pass to Derrion Grim for Fresno State with a little over six minutes left.

No. 2 OHIO STATE 16, No. 5 OKLAHOMA

COLUMBUS, OH — Baker Mayfield came out on top in the quarterback duel with J.T. Barrett after he passed for 386 yards and three touchdowns to pilot No. 5 Oklahoma over No. 2 Ohio State, 31-16 on Saturday night.

Mayfield, one of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy this year, went 27 of 35 on passes and constantly found ways to deliver on big plays throughout the entire contest, while the Sooners (2-0) defense smothered Barrett and the Buckeyes (1-1) offense.

Dimitri Flowers, Trey Sermon and Lee Morris all caught TD passes, while Jordan Smallwood rushed for a score for Oklahoma, which handed first-year head coach Lincoln Riley his first signature victory.

True freshman J.K. Dobbins again was a bright spot for the Ohio State — rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Barrett ran for 66 yards and threw for 183 yards, but wasn’t able to complete the big passes when his team needed them to extend drives.

The win saw Oklahoma avenging the 45-24 loss to the Buckeyes team at home in Norman last year.

No. 3 CLEMSON 14, No. 13 AUBURN 6

CLEMSON, S.C. — Kelly Bryant ran for two touchdowns to lead third-ranked Clemson to a 14-6 win over 13th ranked Auburn on Saturday.

Auburn jumped out in front with a pair of Daniel Carlson’s field goals, but Bryant scored touchdowns late in the second quarter and early in the third to earn the win for Clemson.

Bryant completed 19 of 29 passes for 181 yards for the Tigers (2-0) who could very well move up to No. 2 in the next AP Top 25 rankings after Ohio State fell to Oklahoma.

Defensive end Austin Bryant finished with four of Clemson’s 11 sacks on the night.
