TULSA, Okla., Sporting Alert – Michigan State stayed No. 1 in the latest NCAA College Basketball AP Top 25 Rankings, but North Carolina slipped out of the top 10.
The Spartans (11-0) received 64 of the 65 first-place votes from the media panel for 1,621 points to stay atop of the AP rankings this in Week 6, following a crushing victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore (78-35) and a narrow win over Florida (58-52) last week.
Staying No. 2 this week is Kansas (8-1) which received the other first-place vote for 1,499 points.
Last week, the Jayhawks picked up victories over Holy Cross and Oregon State.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma jumped four places to No. 3 this week, taking advantage of the defeat suffered by North Carolina.
The Sooners (7-0) remain undefeated this season with victories over then-No. 9 Villanova and Oral Roberts.
Kentucky (9-1) moves up one slot to No. 4 this week after earning wins over Eastern Kentucky and Arizona State.
Rounding out the top five in this week’s AP Top 25 rankings is Iowa State (9-0) which despite staying unbeaten with three wins last week, including a comeback 83-82 victory against Iowa — slipped one place to No. 5. The Cyclones also had wins against Buffalo and AR-Pine Bluff.
Maryland (9-1) stayed stable at No. 6 after getting the better of Connecticut and Maryland-Eastern Shore last week, while Duke (8-1) which was idle last week, went up one place to No. 7.
Virginia (8-1), Purdue (11-0) and Xavier (10-0) all jumped two places to round out the top 10.
North Carolina (7-2) after falling 84-82 to Texas, slipped eight places from No. 3 to No. 11, with Villanova (8-1), Arizona (9-1), Providence (10-1) and Miami (FL) (8-1) completing the top 15.
Baylor, Butler, SMU, Louisville and West Virginia took care of No. 16 to No. 20
In the meantime, new to the NCAA College Basketball AP Top 25 Rankings in Week 6 are, George Washington, at No. 21, UCLA, at No. 22, Texas A&M, at No. 24 and Connecticut, at No. 25.
Those four sides replaced Gonzaga (20), Vanderbilt (21), Oregon (24), Utah (25) which all dropped from rankings after negative results in their respective last fixtures.
