Captain Jamaal Lascelles makes his first start for Newcastle United since early November.

The defender was an unused substitute during the defeat to Leicester City on Saturday, but comes into the starting side to partner Florian Lejeune in the backline.

However, as expected, Paul Dummett remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Manager Rafa Benitez makes four changes from the side that lost 3-2 to the Foxes, as Mohamed Diame replaces Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey comes in for Jacob Murphy and Joselu is dropped in favor of Christian Atsu.

For Everton, Center-backs Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane are both fit, but were only named on the bench.

Jagielka featured in the closing last seven minutes of Sunday’s Merseyside derby with Liverpool after being out for three games absence, while Keane did not play in the 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Aaron Lennon who were both subs against Liverpool, start today, with Tom Davies and Oumar Niasse dropping to the bench.

Left-back Leighton Baines continues to be unavailable.

Winger Yannick Bolasie returns from a long-term injury setback in an under-23s match at the top of the week, but this game comes too soon for the Frenchman who had been out for more than a year.

Newcastle United Team: Darlow, Manquillo, Lejeune, Lascelles, Yedlin, Merino, Diame, Shelvey, Atsu, Ritchie, Gayle. Subs: Elliot, Clark, Murphy, Hayden, Aarons, Perez, Joselu.

Starting Team: Pickford, Martina, Kenny, Holgate, Williams, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Rooney, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Calvert-Lewin. Subs: Robles, Keane, Jagielka, Davies, Vlasic, Lookman, Niasse.
