No. 1 USC Drops Oregon State In Volleyball, Stays Undefeated

CORVALLIS, Ore., Sporting Alert – The No. 1 USC women’s volleyball team extended its winning streak this season to 21 games with a 3-1 win over Oregon State at Gill Coliseum on Friday. Game Box Score

The top-ranked Trojan (21-0, 9-0 Pac-12) picked up a 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 25-18 victory against the Beavers (4-15, 2-7) and improved to 49-9 in all-time clashes against Oregon State.

Senior outside hitter Samantha Bricio led the USC offense with 23 kills on 61 attack attempts, while adding two aces, and three blocks for 27 points in the contest.

She also had 15 digs and was one of two Trojans to finished with a double-double.

Freshman setter Baylee Johnson grabbed a career-best 44 assists and 10 digs in the win, as the team progressed to 24-6 all-time in Corvallis.

Junior libero Taylor Whittingham finished with 31 digs, freshman libero Victoria Garrick ended with 11 digs and Alice Pizzasegola collected 22 assists and eight digs.

Brittany Abercrombie and Alyse Ford each chipped in with 14 kills and Elise Ruddins ended with 12.

Mary-Kate Marshall led the Oregon State’s offense with 15 kills. Defensively, she added eight digs.

Lila Toner had 11 digs and nine kills in the defeat for the Beavers, who have dropped three in a row and five of the last six games.

Oregon State, after losing the first set came back to tie things up at 1-1, but found the No. 1 team in the country too strong and surrendered the last two sets.

“For the first two sets, we had a match,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said on the team’s official website.

“I feel that we really let down in our sideout and our hitting efficiency in sets three and four.

“USC is a good team. They had their troubles serving today, missing 18 serves; conversely we had four aces no errors. That’s good to see.

“We know why they are as good as they are. They had a good hitting efficiency and set the ball as fast as I’ve seen to the outside.”

Oregon State will next host UCLA on Sunday, while, USC will be playing at Oregon on Sunday as well.
