LAWRENCE, Kan., Sporting Alert – No. 2 Kansas will aim to stay undefeated this season when it takes on Toledo in it’s final HoopHall Miami Invitational campus game at Allen Fieldhouse here in Lawrence on Tuesday night.
Live coverage of this one is set for 8:00 pm ET, with live streaming available on ESPN3.
In its first two HoopHall campus games, the Jayhawks (5-0) defeated Texas Southern 114-71 and Oakland, 102-59.
Speaking after the Oakland win Kansas coach Bill Self said: “I think they pressured out and didn’t give us as many, but we drove it and got where we wanted to off the drive and we hit the roll man a lot more tonight off the ball screen movement.
“So there were some good things that happened tonight. I still don’t think we always execute well. We just have some guys that can make some individual plays and they go make it. You’re not going to be able to do against really quality competition.
“But it was a good win. They’ll win their league. They’re going to end up being really good.”
Kansas is 5-0 to open a season for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign.
Meanwhile, Toledo (3-2) comes into this battle on the back of two successive defeats after losing to Syracuse 72-64 last Wednesday night and 80-77 to Cornell last Friday.
The Rockets are lead in scoring, rebounding and assisting per game by Tre’Shaun Fletcher, with 19.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk leads Kansas in points per game with 18.8, while Devonte’ Graham, with 9.6 and 2.4, leads the Jayhawks in rebounds and steals per contest this season.
KU currently leads this series against Toledo 2-0. These two teams last met on Dec. 30, 2013, with the Jayhawks picking up a 93-83 win in Lawrence.
ESPN’s Basketball Power Index predicting a more relaxing victory for Bill Self’s team this time around for the Big 12 champs.
