Oregon host Annual Bill Dellinger Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon’s nationally ranked cross country teams square off against the eighth-ranked Portland men and the seventh-ranked Washington women Saturday at the eighth annual Bill Dellinger Invitational at the Springfield Country Club. The men’s 8,000 meter race begins at 10:30 a.m., while the women’s 5,000 meter run goes off at 11:15 a.m.

Admittance is free and spectators are encouraged to take the free shuttle from Mohawk Elementary School.

In addition to the nationally ranked teams, the meet features a number of ranked squads from the West Region. In the men’s race, that includes No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Portland, No. 6 Boise State, No. 7 Washington and No. 13 Gonzaga. For the women, the regionally ranked teams are No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Washington, No. 8 Boise State, No. 10 Portland and No. 14 Idaho, as well as Midwest No. 10 Wichita State.

The men have entered seniors Tim Costin, Brett Johnson, Nathan Mathabane and Parker Stinson, juniors Jeramy Elkaim, Ryan Pickering, Cole Watson and Daniel Winn, sophomores Chris Brewer and Matthew Melancon, and freshman Edward Cheserek, who won last week’s Boston College XC Invitational in his Oregon debut.

The Ducks’ women’s entries for this weekend’s race include senior Sarah Penney, juniors Mia Elbon and Megan Patrignelli, sophomores Ally Aschbacher, Molly Grabill and Abbey Leonardi, and freshmen Skylar Evans, Therese Haiss, Ashley Maton and Maggie Schmaedick.

The meet will be the final home cross country appearance for NCAA qualifiers Stinson and Penney, as well as Costin and Johnson.

Conversely, the Dellinger will be the Oregon debuts for Mathabane, a fifth-year transfer from Princeton, and Aschbacher.

The Ducks are coming off an exceptional performance in Boston last Friday, where the men won the BC XC Invite and the women were second.

Rankings: The Ducks come in the meet ranked fourth nationally, with Portland at No. 8. The Ducks are the top-ranked team in the West, while the Pilots are second. The Dellinger will feature four of the West’s top seven teams with No. 6 Boise State and No. 7 Washington joining Oregon and Portland.
