Premier League 2013-14 opening day fixtures – United open away at Swansea

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Defending champion Manchester United will open the defense of its English Premier League title away against Swansea City on August 17.

The game will see new boss David Moyes, who replaced the retired Sir Alex Ferguson, taking charge of the EPL champs in the league for the first time when they travel to the Liberty Stadium.

The victory will also get a little more tricky as Moyes’ side will then host rivals Chelsea at Old Trafford on 24 August, travel to face Liverpool on 31 August), with the first Manchester derby of the season coming on 21 September when United visits Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho, returning the Premier League at Chelsea, following spells at Inter Milan and Real Madrid, will open in the EPL at home against newly promoted Hull City, while Manchester City and their new manager Manuel Pellegrini start the campaign against Newcastle United, also at home.

In other opening day fixtures, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side will entertain Aston Villa, Tottenham take on the new boys Crystal Palace, Liverpool, looking for a fresh start will open against Stoke City at Anfield, while another newly promoted side Cardiff, who were the Championship winners, take on West Ham, who after winning promotion, finished 10th last year.
