MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Real Madrid will continue to monitor Gareth Bale’s injury progress after the winger was ruled out of tonight’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen.

Bale was a late withdrawal from the Real Madrid squad on Tuesday after the Spanish La Liga club revealed that he picked up a thigh injury.

The former Tottenham star went through tests on Wednesday and the club says his condition will continue to be monitored.

“fter the tests carried out today, the player Gareth Bale has been diagnosed with a muscle contracture in his left thigh,” a statement said on www.RealMadrid.com.

“It remains to be seen how the condition develops.”

Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back and improved from the performance that saw them suffering a 1-0 derby defeat at home to Atletico Madrid over the weekend.

“The Atlético match was no good,” manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed. “We need to react, to improve our results and performances. I feel very confident about my players and I’m sure we are going to respond well.”

He added: “The team are not playing well because we have changed a lot of things but they are going to play better soon, that’s for sure.

“I have a very good squad. They have to play better but this is my problem and I’m going to fix it.”
