RESULTS – African Cup of Nations; Wins for Mali, South Africa

(Sporting Alert) — Mali surprised Nigeria in the opening African Cup of Nations Group A game at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night, while South Africa picked up a victory in their opening game of the tournament on the same day.

Strikes from Abdoulaye Sissoko and Adama Traore sealed the victory for Mali.

Sissoko break the deadlock in the 17th minute of play after he broke free on the right side and then fired home past Chigozie Agbim.

Winger Traore made it 2-0 in the 49th minute with a wonder finish to surprised the Super Eagles.

Nigeria grabbed a goal back in the 54th minute through Gbolahan Salami, but Mali held on for the victory.

In the early kick-off on the day, South Africa cruised to a 3-1 win over Mozambique, with Bernard Parker, who scored from the penalty spot in the first half, Hlompho Kekana and Bernard Parker, scoring the goals.

Antonio Alberto Diogo gave Mozambique the lead in the 10th minute.
