MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Mark Lawrenson, a pundit for Match of the Day, says the striker wants to leave Manchester United.
There have been recent reports claiming that Van Persie has had a fall out with new manager David Moyes over his training methods, while the Scots decision to clear out the entire backroom staff, including Rene Meulensteen, regarded as one of the best coaches in the world, has not sit well with the Dutchman.
“There’s all sorts of rumours coming out of the training ground at the minute,” said Lawrenson on The Last Word with Matt Cooper.
“I know one or two of the press boys that cover Manchester United, and they were saying there are whispers that Van Persie might have asked for a transfer the other night.”
When asked about the report, Moyes, following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the English Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday, says “That’s absolute nonsense.”
“It’s not true,” he added.
