Rockets Fired Head Coach Kevin McHale

TEXAS, Sporting Alert – The Houston Rockets have fired head coach Kevin McHale, Yahoo! Sports reported on Wednesday morning.

NBA Columnist and Insider for Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the rumour Wednesday, citing that the news is coming from league sources.

According to the report, assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff will take charge of the team as the interim coach for Wednesday night’s clash at home with the Portland Trail Blazers.

It is understood the Rockets will give Bickerstaff some time to see what he can do in charge, but hasn’t promised the job to him on a full-time basis.

In an update to this story, ESPN.com is now reporting that McHale confirmed the news to ESPN NBA analyst Chris Broussard.

Houston is off to a very poor start this term, despite the wealth of talents at the ball club.

The Western Conference side has a disappointing 4-7 record through its first 11 games of the campaign and is currently on a very unhealthy losing streak.

The 111-95 defeat suffered at the hands of the Boston Celtics on Monday night, extended the Rockets’ poor run to four successive defeats and it seems as though that has triggered the club to finally get rid of coach McHale.

McHale, who was in his fifth season in Houston, had an overall record of 193-130 with the Rockets, while guiding the team to three straight trips to the NBA playoffs.

Last season the Rockets made it to the Western Conference finals before losing to eventual NBA champions Golden State Warriors.

He signed a three-year contract extension last year, but that has been cut short.
