ST MARY’S (Sporting Alert) — Wayne Rooney makes a return to the Manchester United starting line-up for tonight’s English Premier League outing with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
Rooney missed the midweek win over Stoke City last time out because of a knee injury, but the captain is back in the starting team to partner Robin van Persie in the Manchester United attack.
Defender Paddy McNair comes into the side and will start along with Chris Small and Marcos Rojo in the backline, while Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini all start in midfield.
Ander Herrera, who started the last game is back on the bench along with James Wilson, who also moved to the bench.
Striker Falcao, Adnan Januzaj and Darren Fletcher also start on the bench.
In the meantime, Southampton make two changes to the side that was defeated 1-0 at Arsenal, with Maya Yoshida coming in for injured defender Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane replacing Jack Cork in midfield.
Graziano Pelle and Shane Long will lead the attack for the Saints who will be looking to stop a two game losing streak.
Manchester United have won four English Premier League games in a row, but are 11 points away from leaders Chelsea.
A win for either of these sides tonight would see them moving into third place ahead of West Ham United.
The game will see two managers, Louis van Gaal and Ronald Koeman, who clearly do not like each other, coming together.
