LIVERPOOL – A brace from Sadio Mane and a goal each by Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge guided Liverpool to a convincing 4-0 victory over West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday (12).
Salah and Mane scored the opening goals in the 19th and 45th minutes to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead at halftime before Mane added a third for the home side and his second of the game in the 53rd minute.
Substitute Sturridge completed the scoring in the 88th minute.
Liverpool started the game brightly and used their ruthless attacking front three to dominate the first half.
“It’s a good time for us,” the Mane Liverpoolfc.com. “Sometimes it’s difficult to start the season but we started very well in pre-season, we won almost every game.
“We have started the season great and everybody is happy. We’re going to try to keep the same level and keep going.
“We played great football today, we created many chances. We defended as a team, compact, and tried to win every battle. We scored four goals and we deserved to win.
“The most important thing was the three points and we got them, so we’re very pleased.”
James Milner, who was the captain for the Reds with Jordan Henderson starting on the bench and summer recruit Naby Keita both had a standout game, with the former getting the nod for the Man of the Match award.
Former Manchester City Premier League title-winning boss Manuel Pellegrini was suffering an opening defeat on his return to the English League.
New summer arrival Xherdan Shaqiri came on as a substitute for Liverpool, while Fabinho was on the bench.
