YEKATERINBURG, Russia — Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is only on the bench for Egypt today in their 2018 FIFA World Cup Group A opener against Uruguay, following the team released ahead of the game in Yekaterinburg.
Live coverage of this game is on Fox Sports 1 and streaming live on Fox Sports Go. Kick-off time is 8:00 am ET.
Salah, who injured his shoulder in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last month, had been doubtful for the tournament, but could make an appearance off the bench at the 35,000-seater Central Stadium.
Salah scored 32 English Premier League goals for Liverpool this past season.
Meanwhile, the starting lineup had no place also for Essam El Hadary, who was hoping to become the oldest player ever to appear in a FIFA World Cup.
El Hadary was hoping to start in goal, but the Egypt coaching staff opted to go with Mohamed Elshenawy between the stick.
Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny does start in the middle of the pitch for the Egyptians, as does attacking midfielder Mahmoud Hassan.
The Uruguay attack will be led by goalscoring forwards Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, with top defender Diego Godín leading the team from the back.
