The Netherlands, who were the 2010 runner-ups, will seek to book successive World Cup final places with a win over an Argentina side that has only defeated them once in eight previous meetings.
Holland won four of those eight clashes, with three ending in a draw. Argentina’s sole victory in the head-to-head fixture came at the 1978 World Cup final where they came away with a 3-1 positive result.
Both teams come into this clash with injury problems.
For the Netherlands, captain Robin van Persie is a serious doubt because of a stomach problem, while Argentina will for sure be without midfielder Angel Di Maria, who picked up a thigh muscle problem and could miss the rest of the tournament.
Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is back from a thigh injury, but is expected to start on the bench again with Ezequiel Lavezzi set to keep his place, while Marcos Rojo will return at left-back after returning from suspension.
