Van Persie, who missed the opening week defeat to Swansea City, is back to play alongside Wayne Rooney in the United attack, as Javier Hernandez, who is being linked with a move away, dropped to the bench.

In fact, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal make three changes to the side that was defeated by Swansea City, with Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard also missing the game because of injury.

New signing Marcos Rojo is not eligible as yet as he awaits a work permit, so youngster Tyler Blackett partners Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the back three. Fit-again Antonio Valencia also starts today, with Tom Cleverley coming in for Herrera.

Starting for Hull City at the Stadium of Light is summer signing Will Buckley, who is handed his full debut, but winger Adam Johnson misses out through illness. Defender Santiago Vergini is back in the side after shaking off an injury.
