Follow Live Text Commentary on SportingLife.com

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has decided to name a very strong team against his fellow Premier League outfits, as he seeks to stop a two game skid in all competitions.

Among the starters today are Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Fernando.

However, starting goalkeeper Joe Hart was left out of the match day squad for this contest, as he is rested, with Willy Caballero getting the start in place of the England first choice.

Bacary Sagna, Nicolas Otamendi, Martin Demichelis and Aleksandar Kolarov make up a very strong back four.

Captain Vincent Kompany, fellow defender Eliaquim Mangala and midfield playmaker are out injured and will not feature for Manchester City today.

Fernandinho and Patrick Roberts are among a very inexperienced substitute bench.

For Sunderland, in the meantime, Yann M’Vila, Jack Rodwell, Jeremain Lens and Fabio Borini all start.

Winger Adam Johnson is also in the starting lineup, along with American defender DeAndre Yedlin, who is on loan from Tottenham.

Wes Brown, Lee Cattermole, Sebastian Larsson, Jermain Defoe, Steven Fletcher and Jordi Gomez are all on the bench, so too is goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, with Vito Mannone getting the starting nod.

Manchester City are hoping to halt a two game slide after losing at home in the Champions League to Juventus and then to West Ham United at the weekend in the English Premier League.

Sunderland are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season and sit at the bottom of the table standings.

Sunderland Team: Mannone, Yedlin, Coates, O’Shea, Van Aanholt, M’Vila, Rodwell, Lens, Toivonen, Johnson, Borini. Subs: Pantilimon, Brown, Cattermole, Larsson, Gomez, Defoe, Fletcher.

Manchester City Team: Caballero, Sagna, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov, Toure, Fernando, Jesus Navas, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero. Subs: Fernandinho Roberts, Wright, Maffeo, Garcia, Barker, Evans.

‘Embarrassing time’ for us, says Sunderland boss Poyet

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he has no intentions of watching replays from the “embarrassing”  8-0 defeat to Southampton in the Premier League Saturday.

Sunderland went to St Mary’s Stadium confident of taking something home from the match and the visitors started brightly.

However, things got tough as the game progressed and Southampton were rewarded with 3-0 lead at half-time.

And things didn’t get any better in the second either for the travelers, as the hosts scored five more goals in the second half to leave Poyet and his side stunned.

“I think its the most embarrassing time I’ve had on a football pitch,” the manager told reporters after the game.

“You think you will never get these situations but unfortunately it is sometimes your turn. I feel very sorry for the fans, they came a long way to see a very difficult game today.”

According to Poyet, nothing went right for them on Saturday.

“We conceded an own goal whish is unique. We paid the price for everything that went wrong today because it was a difficult day,” he said.

“The only thing we knew is we needed to not throw the game away as 3-0 was enough. I learned a lot about the players today – the bad side as some gave up and I know who they are for the future.”

He added: “I cannot watch it again because it’s not a lot to analyse. We were a difficult team to play before today but it was totally the opposite.

“As a group we didn’t show the character to be on the pitch. We were really poor and unacceptable in the second half.”

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, in the meantime, was happy with the victory, but admits to being left shocked scoreline.

“I’m very pleased. Still a little bit in shock,” Koeman said. “That 8-0 is not a normal result. I was surprised after 20 minutes about the score. 2-0 up and we didn’t start the game well.

“Sunderland were dominating and we had problems. Lucky by the first one, the own goal, gave us a little bit more confidence and we wake up after that.

“I’m very proud about the second half. We have 17 players out in the international break and if you show that ambition until the last second it is great.

“That was important. We played great football, we scored great goals and it was a great afternoon.”

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will check on Roberto Soldado and Eric Dier ahead of the clash, but the pair are expected to shake off respective injuries before the contest.

Full-back Kyle Walker underwent surgery on a pelvic injury and will be out for sure, but fellow defender Danny Rose should be fit after recovering from a minor problem during the defeat to Liverpool.

New summer recruits Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli are both available, but Pochettino could leave them on the substitutes’ bench to start the game.

Tottenham have won two of their opening games, but are looking to bounce back from the 3-0 defeat they suffered the last time out against Liverpool at White Hart Lane last month.

Sunderland have not reported any injuries and should have all their players available for the upcoming home fixture.

Manager Gus Poyet will also have new loan recruits Sebastian Coates, who signed a season-long loan from Liverpool and Ricky Alvarez both available.

Sunderland have tied two of their opening three games, include playing to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

SUNDERLAND (Sporting Alert) — Fabio Borini and Ki sung-Yueng scored late goals for Sunderland to stun Chelsea in the English League Cup quarter-final at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.

Goal Sung-Yong Ki – Sunderland 2-1 Chelsea – 17… by all-goals-Highlights

Chelsea took the lead through an own goal from a deflected combination from Frank Lampard of Chelsea and Lee Cattermole of Sunderland after right-back Cesar Azpilicueta delivered a low cross into the box in the 30th minute.

However, Chelsea failed to make their total domination counted and were punished two-minutes from time when second half substitute Borini fired home the equaliser after striker Jozy Altidore won his battle with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

Another substitute Ki sung-Yueng, who had a header brilliantly saved by Schwarzer in an earlier buildup, took his chance this time after he collected a ball from Borini, moved past Michael Essien and then fired a low shot from 10 yards out past the keeper for the winner in the last minute of extra-time.

“I think we played very well,” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. “We lost every match because we don’t kill off opponents and every one knows when we play them they have a chance to score.”

“We had a lot of key moments… we just don’t kill off team.”

Chelsea had won the last nine trips to the Stadium of Light and were unbeaten in the last ten before the defeat Tuesday night.
