(Sporting Alert) — No. 21 Texas A&M takes on No. 9 South Carolina in the most anticipated college football game, Thursday, at 6:00 PM ET at the Williams-Brice Stadium Columbia, SC.
An early showdown of the contenders in the SEC Conference is about to captivate the eyes of the college football fans. The Aggies would be without the prominent quarterback Johnny Manziel, who led this team into 10-6 in its two conference years in SEC.
Taking over for Manziel is the sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill, who completed 16 of 22 of his passes for 183 yards and a touchdown in four games last year. It’s a question of how successful Hill navigates through the defense of the opposing team and how he plays with chemistry to his receivers.
With Hill as the anchor of the offense of the Aggies, never expect of the high-octane offense that they used to have.
Hill likes to wait how his teammates will be able to respond as the game progresses.
Texas A&M seeks to get out of the box from losing the opening games the last two seasons. The Aggies look to a good start to have a shot at the SEC East title.
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier understands the pressure of being considered the strongest team in the SEC East. He knows that this is a breakthrough season in which the Gamecocks will eventually triumph at the end.
The Gamecocks will parade quarterback Dylan Thompson against Texas A&M defense. Thompson is a senior quarterback taking over for Connor Show, who brought the Gamecocks into three straight 11-2 seasons. Thompson is capable of leading the Gamecocks because he learned a lot in the previous year how the offense has been executed.
South Carolina relies also on running back Mike Davis, who had 100 yards or more in seven of the Gamecocks nine games. He ended up with 1,183 yards on the ground before he suffered injuries.
Winning 18 straight games at home was a daunting task to do for South Carolina. Will the Gamecocks be able to win their 19th consecutive at home? Meanwhile, Texas A&M can extremely win on the road, 10-2, under coach Kevin Sumlin.
Expect the Gamecocks to play tight defense over the offense of the Aggies.
No one knows at this juncture how the Aggies offense would be with Hill and the defense of the Gamecocks will make the difference.
