(Sporting Alert) — Under pressure manager Andre Villas-Boas has named a strong Tottenham starting team to face Tromso in their Europa League – Group K match at Alfheim Stadion, despite leaving 10 first-team players at home.
Amongst the starters tonight for the English Premier League team are Spanish forward Roberto Soldado and England winger Andros Townsend.
Soldado, who has been struggling to score goals since his summer move to White Hart Lane, gets the nod over Jermain Defoe, who usually starts in Europe, but was not even in the squad.
Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele, Nacer Chadli and Gylfi Sigurdsson all start in midfield, while Jan Vertonghen, Lewis Holtby and Erik Lamela are all on the bench.
Tottenham, who sits 9th in the English Premier League points standing with 20pts, will be looking to bounce back from the embarrassing 6-0 defeat at Manchester City in the EPL over the weekend.
Notably on the bench is 19-year-old winger Kenny McEvoy and he could get his first team outing tonight.
