LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal and Bayern Munich have both missed penalty kicks in the first half in their Champions League clash at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bayern Munich were given a massive left-off after Mesut Ozil missed an early penalty kick, but the Germans returned the favour after David Alaba missed his spot-kick as well.
The German international made a brilliant run inside the Bayern Munich penalty box with his pace and tricks to move past Jerome Boateng, who then brought him down for the spot kick.
While Arsenal fans were bracing themselves to celebrate a priceless go-head goal, Ozil, against his fellow countryman and childhood friend Manuel Neuer, made it very easy for him, as his penalty kick was tame and very weakly taken down the center of the goal and goalkeeper managed to beat it away with his right hand.
Yaya Sanogo, meanwhile, was handed the starting place to lead the attack ahead of Olivier Giroud, and the young French striker has been very impressive so far.
He is linking up very well with Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in causing all sort of problems for Bayern Munich’s defenders with his pace.
Half-hour later on the clash, in the 38th minute, Bayern Munich themselves missed a penalty kick, after Wojciech Szczesny brought down Arjen Robben and David Alaba rolled his spot kick on the post.
Arsenal are also down to 10-man, as Szczesny has been sent off.
