Villanova Stays No. 1 In AP Top 25 In Week 12: Jan. 23

MIAMI, Fla. — There is no change at the top of the rankings as Villanova and Kansas stayed No. 1 and No. 2 in The Associated Press college basketball Top 25 poll in Week 12 on Monday.

The Wildcats (19-1) secured a pair of wins last week over Seton Hall and Providence to receive 35 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel for 1,591 points.

The defending champions who returned to the top of rankings a couple of weeks ago, following the defeat to Baylor, is No. 1 for the seventh week overall this season.

Kansas (18-1) remained solid at No. 2 this week with a pair of wins over Iowa State and Texas last week and picked up 28 first-place votes from the panel for 1,572 points.

Gonzaga, the last unbeaten Division I team, received two votes for first place and moved up to third in this week’s rankings

Kentuck is also up one spot to No. 5 this week, with Baylor advancing one notch to fifth, while Florida State, following impressive wins over Notre Dame and Louisville last week, jumped four places from No. 10 to No. 6.

Arizona, which stunned last week’s No. 3 team UCLA, also vaulted big this week, moving seven places up to No. 7.

The Bruins, North Carolina and Oregon rounded out the Top 10.

Butler, Virginia, Louisville, Notre Dame and Wisconsin round out the Top 15.

Creighton, Duke, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Purdue are 16 through 20 in the AP Top 25 rankings this week.

The bottom five are Saint Mary’s (Cal.), Maryland, South Carolina, Xavier and Florida.

West Virginia, which lost to Oklahoma and Kansas State last week, dropped the biggest after slipping 11 spots from No. 7 last week.
