PITTSBURGH, PA, Sporting Alert – No. 25 Virginia Tech will tackle Pittsburgh at Heinz Field to start the college football Week 9 schedule on Thursday night.

The night will also see two other games streaming live on ESPN3, including the California v USC battle, which is available in Spanish.

Kick-off in Pittsburgh is at 7:00pm ET and live coverage is available on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.

The Hokies (5-2) bounced back from a shocking defeat to Syracuse by beating Miami 37-16 last week to stay on pace to catch North Carolina in the race for the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division regular season crown.

Quarterback Jerod Evans, who has thrown for 1,611 yards with two interceptions and 19 touchdowns so far this season, and rushed for 417 yards, is expected to keep leading the offense for Virginia Tech, which has scored 31 or more points in all its fixtures thus far.

They have also held teams to fewer than 20 points in the last five outings.

Pittsburgh (5-2) heads into this clash in search of its fourth successive win on the season, but this will be the first time this term it will be taking on a team ranked in the AP Top 25.

After losing back-to-back games on the road to Oklahoma State and North Carolina to close out their college football September fixtures, the Panthers defeated Marshall, Georgia Tech and Virginia in October to get back on track.

Like Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh has high hopes at winning the ACC Coastal Division and is targeting victories in the next three fixtures.

The Panthers are behind both North Carolina and the Hokies in the division standings.

In the meantime, California and USC will go head-to-head in a key PAC-12 fixture at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The Trojans (4-3) have won three in a row entering this contest and will go in search of a fourth against the Golden Bears (4-3) who are coming off a double-overtime 52-49 victory over Oregon on Friday night.
