MADRID (SportingAlert) — Atletico Madrid will host Real Madrid in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on Friday.
Both teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week.
Forward Cristiano Ronaldo is only on the bench for tonight’s clash, despite manager Carlo Ancelotti saying he could start the game on Thursday.
The Portugal international suffered a back injury during Tuesday’s first leg and Ancelotti has decided to name him on the bench as a precaution.
This means that Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and James Rodríguez will lead the attack for the visitors, with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso starting in the midfield.
There is, however, no Angel Di Maria, who was left out of the squad after he turned down a new contract and asked to leave the club.
Defenders Pepe and Marcelo are both on the bench, with Raphael Varane and Fabio Coentrao selected to start in this game.
For Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, Mario Mandzukic leads the attack, with the former Bayern Munich forward expected to be well supported by Antoine Griezmann and Raúl García. Gabi and Koke start in midfield, with Diego Godín, Juanfran and Miranda all starting in the back line.
