ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Sporting Alert – Day two action at the 2016 Carifta Games will get under way on Easter Sunday with another full schedule as defending champion Jamaica looks to press home its advantage in the medal count.
The powerhouses dominated Saturday’s opening day after winning 26 medals at the National Stadium to build a large lead over their rivals.
After coming close to sweeping the 100m, 400m and 1500m events on the opening day, Jamaica will hunt for more medals on Sunday’s second day, with no fewer than 19 finals on the schedule.
Among the medal competitions slated for the day are the 4x100m relays for all the age groups, which the Jamaicans are favoured to sweep, as well as all four 400m hurdles finals.
The action will get going at 9:00 am CT with the second day of competition in the girls’ Heptathlon and boys’ Octathlon events.
The girls’ Discus Throw for Under-18 will be the first final on day two while the first event on the track will be the semi-final heats of all the 400m hurdles, starting at 9:15 am.
This will be followed by the 800m semi-finals before the sprinters return to the track for the 200m semis.
The morning session will conclude with the medal ceremony for the finals that took place on Saturday night.
Here are the list of finals set for today: girls’ Under-18 discus throw, boys’ Under-18 high jump, boys’ pole vault Open, girls’ Under-18 long jump, boys Under-18 shot put, girls Under-20 triple jump, 400m hurdles (all four), boys Under-20 javelin, boys Under-20 long jump, girls’ 3000m Open, boys’ 3000 Under-18, girls Under-20 discus throw, and 4x100m relays (all four).
