LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Leaders Arsenal will look to extend their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League with a win over manger-less Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The Gunners welcome back midfielder Mathieu Flamini, who is available after missed the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund in midfield because of a mild concussion he suffered in the 4-1 win over Norwich City.
However, fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere is expected to miss the game with an ankle injury he suffered against Dortmund, with the manager confirming that the England international will be checked on before the game.
“Flamini is available,” Wenger said on Arsenal official website at www.arsenal.com. “He had no basic injury – it was just a precaution.
“Wilshere (ankle) will be checked later by the medical people and we’ll see if I will involve him or not.”
Wenger also confirmed that summer signing Mesut Ozil was suffering from a virus in midweek, which explained his below-par performance in the Borussia Dortmund defeat.
“He was sick before the game and he was not at his best on the night,” Wenger explained.
“He said he was all right, but in the two days before he had a virus and you could see that physically he was not at his best.”
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace caretaker boss Keith Millen is hoping help turn around the club’s poor start to the season, which resulted in the departure of Ian Holloway, the man who was in charge of getting them into the Premier League.
