The Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers will meet for the second time in three nights when the pair battle in another NBA preseason fixture at STAPLES Center on Sunday night.
These two teams met in an exhibition opener on Friday with the Lakers picking up an 87-81 win, playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
James will miss the second preseason game against the Clippers as he continues to rest for next week’s regular-season start, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. Davis will also be held out as he extends his rest period.
Preseason recruits Montrezl Harrell, who played with the Clippers last season, Wes Matthews, and Dennis Schroder all made their debut for the reigning NBA champions. After a close encounter across the first three quarters, the Lakers outscored the Clippers 28-20 in the 4th quarter to seal the win.
Harrell was effective against his former team, recording a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Second-year pro Talen Horton-Tucker top scored with 19 points for the Lakers and narrowly missed a double-double after grabbing nine rebounds. Kyle Kuzma had 18 points with five assists.
Paul George was the only Clipper player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points in 14 minutes and shot 4 of 9 from the field. Fellow superstar Kawhi Leonard played 14 minutes and finished with three points and seven boards.
The Clippers will be hoping to bounce back from the defeat suffered on Friday, with the game streaming live on WatchESPN.com and the ESPN App. ESPN will broadcast the action on television. Tipoff time is 8:30 pm ET.
The LA Clippers have lost four straight games in all categories, dating backing to last season when they surrendered a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference to the Denver Nuggets.
