Liverpool leads the EPL table standings with 36 points, while the on form Manchester City sits third on the standings, one point behind the Reds and will be looking to take over the top position as they seek to win another league title this season.

The clash could see England goalkeeper Joe Hart retaining his place between the sticks after starting against Fulham in the exciting 4-2 win at Fulham in the last outing.

However, leading scorer Sergio Aguero and central defender Matija Nastasic (both calf) are out, while Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards (both hamstring) are also injured.

For Liverpool, EPL leading goalscorer Luis Suarez, who has already scored 19 times in the league this season, will continue to captain the leaders with midfielder and club captain Steven Gerrard still out injured.

Defender Jon Flanagan is doubtful for the game after he pick up a hamstring injury in Saturday’s win over Cardiff City.

“We have a few injuries at this moment, which is unfortunate for us in this busy period,” said Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

“We just have to assess Jon Flanagan.

“He came off late in the game against Cardiff (on Saturday) with a tight hamstring, which he had for a few days (before).

“He was fit enough to start and play, but felt it a little bit in the game so had to take him off. We just need to assess how that is over the next 24 hours.

“At the moment none of the guys who have been out have returned so we’re quite thin on the ground.
