MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie is well set to make a return to the Manchester United starting line-up for the EPL clash against his former club Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Van Persie started as a substitute in the midweek Champions League draw at Real Sociedad, but manager David Moyes will almost certainly recall the Dutch forward to face the Gunners as Man United look to close the gap on the leaders.
Wayne Rooney, who has scored more goals against Arsenal than any other club, with 10, will play as the second striker and he is at 11/2 to net the opening goal on Sunday, according to Skybet.
Shinji Kagawa could start on the left, although he was move effective when he was moved inside, while Michael Carrick could also return in midfield after missing the clash against Real Sociedad, Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, for Arsenal, Wenger will check on the fitness of star midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is carrying an ankle problem. The boss will also check on another midfielder, Mathieu Flamini, who apparently has recovered from a groin injury.
“Flamini, I am quite confident will be fully available,” Wenger said on www.arsenal.com. “Wilshere, we will see how he responds to his inflammation of the ankle.”
Aaron Ramsey has been in fine form this season, and has most recently scored six goals in his last seven games.
He is tipped at 10/1 to open the scoring in Sunday’s contest and who would bet against, following his winning goal in midweek against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
The defending champions will also need to keep a close eye on midfield player Mesut Ozil, as well as striker Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal, who dominated Liverpool in their last EPL fixture, are undefeated away in 18 games in all competitions.
