The Blue Devils (3-0) cleared their first major hurdle of the season in Chicago on Tuesday night when they picked up a thrilling 88-81 win over No. 2 Michigan State in the Champions Classic.

Mike Krzyzewski’s side will now feature in a couple home games before heading on the road to play in the Phil Knight Invitational tournament next week.

In the win over the Spartans at the top of the week, senior guard Grayson Allen scored a career-best 37 points to lead the way for Duke, which played without talented freshman Marvin Bagley III, who sidelined for much of the game.

Bagley III left the game with an eye problem with 10:09 left in the first half and didn’t return.

Duke hopes that he will be able to feature against Southern (0-3).

“His eye was starting to shut,” Krzyzewski told reporters after the game. “At first he had a hard time seeing out of the eye. It’s scratched. I think he’ll be fine.”

Meanwhile, the winless Jaguars will be hoping to snap a three-game skid.

It will be difficult going up against the Blue Devils, who have won 134 consecutive non-conference home games, which is the nation’s longest active streak.
