The NBA season tips off on Tuesday night with two games, as the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers meet city rivals LA Clippers at STAPLES Center at 10 p.m. ET.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
This game will be the second of a doubleheader on opening night, airing live on TNT and streaming online at Watch TNT Live. The new campaign tips off with the Golden State Warriors taking on the Brooklyn Nets at 8:00 pm.
LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Lakers will be back on the court two months after beating the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The superstars had extended rest during the early preseason fixtures, but are now prime and ready to get the defense of their NBA title underway.
Lakers Cruised Through Preseason
Both teams met twice in the preseason with the Lakers winning both games over the Clippers – 87-81 on Dec. 11 and 125-105 on Dec. 13. Los Angeles won all four preseason games after picking up another pair of wins over the Phoenix Suns after the Clippers series.
The Clippers went 0-3 in preseason games after also losing to the Utah Jazz in exhibition play.
After a disappointing season last year, which saw them failing to get past the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinal, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George will be hoping to make amends under newly appointed head coach Tyrone Lue, who replaced Doc Rivers at the conclusion of the last term.
The Clippers went 49-23 overall and scored 116.3 points per game and gave up 109.9 during the regular season last campaign.
James and the Lakers went 52-19 overall in the 2019-20 season. They scored 113.4 points per game and allowed 107.6 points last season.
Meanwhile, the LA Clippers announced on Tuesday that forward Marcus Morris will not play in the regular-season opener against the Lakers. Morris, one of the club’s prime defenders, did not play in any of the team’s three preseason games earlier this month as he continues to deal with a knee injury.
