Bolt, the 2012 London Olympic Games sprint champion, recovered from a weak start to overhaul the field with his massive strides and then shut things down in the closing metres to win in 9.94 win a -1.2m/s headwind, beating his truing partner Kemar Bailey-Cole, who ran well for second place at 9.98.

However, former national champion and ex-world record holder Powell faded poorly in the latter part of the race and could only manage to finish seventh in 10.22.

Powell has been nursing a groin injury all season and even though he ran well in the heats and semi-finals, the star sprinter looked well short of race fitness and it cost him a place on the Jamaican sprint team.
