Yohan Blake Among Fastest 100m Qualifiers At Jamaica Trials

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Waseem Williams and Rasheed Dwyer registered the fastest times from the heats of the men’s 100 metres at the 2019 Jamaica National Senior and Junior Championships here at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Easily making progress to the semi-finals as well was 2011 World champion Yohan Blake, after he won the opening heat of four in 10.19 seconds.

Blake finished ahead of MVP’s Julian Forte, who crossed the line in 10.29, while Kenroy Anderson of Racers Track took third in 10.32.

Meanwhile, Waseem Williams and Rasheed Dwyer both posted 10.17 seconds to qualify joint fastest heading into the semis.

Williams, who attends Purdue University, won the third heat ahead of Senoj-Jay Givans (10.26) and former world record holder Asafa Powell (10.27).

Elsewhere, defending Tyquendo Tracey took heat 3 in 10.26, finishing ahead of Raheem Chambers of the University of Miami, at 10.30 and Romario Williams (10.31). Kemar Bailey-Cole, returning from injury, was fourth in 10.33.

Dwyer of Sprintec captured heat four ahead of Florida State’s Andre Ewers (10.25) and MVP’s Nesta Carter (10.33).
